Agriculture Minister David Carter is getting a first hand insight into the challenges of farming on the Chatham Islands.
He's there for two days with Conservation Minister Kate Wilkinson and Rangitata MP Jo Goodhew.
They will visit farms as well as meet farmer and council representatives.
With farmers on the Chathams dependent on shipping services to get their livestock to market on the mainland, Mr Carter says shipping issues are high on the agenda.
