Long life milk plant begins production

A longlife milk processing plant in Tauranga, developed by May Wang who fronted the original bid by Natural Dairy NZ Holdings to buy the Crafar farms, has begun trial production.

New Zealand Dairy Processing Ltd refitted the 5000 square metre plant, which until early last year was used to produce pet food.

Once in full production, the plant will be able to process 150 million 250mm packets of UHT milk per year for export to China.

When New Zealand Dairy Processing was formed in July last year, Ms Wang was the only director. Since then she has been made bankrupt.

Three new directors were appointed just before Christmas.

Natural Dairy NZ Holdings won't comment on whether it's looking at other dairy investments in New Zealand, after the Overseas Investment Office rejected its application to buy the Crafar farms.
