Council looks into spray complaints following PSA outbreak

1:52 pm on 16 March 2011

Bay of Plenty Regional Council is investigating five complaints about recent instances of aerial spraying and spray drift.

Water management head Eddie Grogan says the PSA outbreak in the region has resulted in aerial spraying, which seems to have circumvented the council's required procedures.

He says a Spray Drift Action Committee, which included kiwifruit growers and members of the community, was set up in 2009.

It has made significant process in ensuring spraying is notified.

Mr Grogan says rules have been set for a reason, and it is important for orchardists and contractors to know that if they are broken there will be consequences.
