Tributes for former AgResearch chief executive

1:04 pm on 28 March 2011

Colleagues and friends have paid tribute to a former chief executive of AgResearch who died suddenly on Friday.

Dr Bill Kain, who was in his early 70s, was the first chief executive of the Crown research institute when it was formed early in the 1990s.

He was also a trustee and chair of the Agricultural and Marketing Research and Development Trust.

A fellow scientist and friend, AgResearch business manager Dr Gavin Sheath, says Dr Kain was prominent in agricultural science, starting with his research days in the Ministry of Agriculture and then later in agribusiness.

Dr Sheath says Dr Kain then went on to make a major impact in connecting scientific innovation with agri-business

His funeral will be held in Christchurch on Wednesday.
