Farm profit improvement programme extended

The dairy industry has extended a farm profit improvement programme in Waikato for a further three years.

The business coaching pilot scheme - a joint initiative between Fonterra, Dairy NZ and South Waikato District Council - was launched at the end of 2007 with the aim of helping dairy farmers to develop their own business plan and improve their bottom lines by 10% a year.

An AgFirst agricultural consultant, Nicola Waugh, who has helped to run the Dairy Push programme, says 55 farmers have been involved.

She says they have been able to increase efficiencies, boost production and reduce on-farm costs.

While the overall results are still being collated, Ms Waugh says, the programme is seen as a success, and so has been extended.
