Bottled water sent to Japan by Zespri

Kiwifruit marketer Zespri is contributing to the relief effort in Japan by sending thousands of litres of bottled water to areas ravaged by the earthquake and tsunami on 11 March.

When its first shipment of kiwifruit left for Japan this week - 500,000 trays of new-season gold kiwifruit - 30,000 litres of bottled drinking water went as well.

Supply chain manager Sally Gardiner says the company has been monitoring the situation in Japan very closely and wanted to show its support.

She says Zespri's suppliers in Japan say that demand for kiwifruit remains strong, so its export programme to Japan will continue as planned.
