Farmers buying fertiliser again

6:03 am on 1 April 2011

Fertiliser companies report a boost in sales as sheep and beef farmers start buying fertiliser again.

They say the farmers are spending more on fertiliser as their incomes from meat and wool rise.

Ravensdown Fertiliser Co-operative says its superphosphate sales in particular have gone up.

Ballance Agri-nutrients says its sales are up by about 15% on a year ago, and it has also noticed the focus on superphosphate.

It says the lift has been especially noticeable since Christmas.
