Northland Regional Council is on the hunt for a new poplar tree supplier.

Northland Regional Council is on the hunt for a new poplar tree supplier.

The local authority says the region's only specialist poplar nursery, at Parakao northwest of Whangarei, was closed last year and the council is having to source poles from outside the region.

The council's land programme manager, Dean Evans, says it is looking for a partner in Northland to supply up to 25,000 poplar poles for erosion control work.

He says the council is now calling for expressions of interest and anticipates demand for 2000 - 5000 poles annually for the next five years.
