Federated Farmers says a decision on whether to appeal against an Environment Court ruling that requires Taupo farmers to seek resource consent to farm, will be made early this week.
The court backed a plan by the Waikato Regional Council, known as variation five, to impose controls on farms surrounding Lake Taupo in a bid to protect the lake from nitrogen run-off.
The council intends to make livestock farming a controlled activity under the Resource Management Act.
A spokesperson for Federated Farmers says an appeal is likely.
Any appeal must be filed by Wednesday, 3 December.
