Biosecurity legislation not good enough - exporter

6:11 am on 19 April 2011

A Bay of Plenty flower exporter says the Government is fast tracking new biosecurity legislation that is poorly conceived.

Bloomz managing director Andrew Warren told Parliament's Primary Production Select Committee that exporters have not been consulted on the Biosecurity Law Reform Bill and they are concerned it is being rushed through with little thought.

Mr Warren, who is also an executive member of Export Bay of Plenty, says Government-Industry Agreements to prepare and respond to incursions are not a good idea, especially when voluntary agreements are already working well.
