Substantial penalties have been imposed on a forestry contractor and a dairy farm trustee for polluting waterways in Bay of Plenty.
CMH Contracting Limited has been fined $30,500 for discharging contaminants into a stream bed, during forestry harvesting near Te Puke.
In a separate case, Roy Vercoe, a dairy farm trustee manager, has been fined $17,500 for discharging dairy effluent into the Kaituna River from a farm drain and storage pond.
Bay of Plenty Regional Council says both cases showed a lack of appreciation and responsibility for protecting waterways.
