Forestry professionals in the Pacific region have agreed to work closer together to promote and manage the use of timber and other forestry products.

More than 300 forestry delegates from 20 countries attended a conference in Auckland last week to discuss issues facing the industry in the wider Pacific.

The president of the New Zealand Forest Institute, Andrew McEwen, says the delegates were united in the need for greater recognition of the value of sustainably managed forests and working together to achieve that.

Mr McEwen says that under the agreement forestry professionals will be working together to ensure that forestry makes its full contribution to the Pacific region.
