Fieldays visitor numbers down, but spending up

Visitor numbers were down at this year's National Agricultural Fieldays at Mystery Creek, but organisers say spending was up.

Numbers on the first three days were running ahead of last year's. But after a wet final day on Saturday, the overall attendance of more than 117,000 was 4% down on last year.

Fieldays general manager Barry Quayle says in terms of performance, this year's event went even better than expected and, with farmers in buying mood, some of the more-than 1000 exhibitors reported record sales.

Final sales figures will be released later in the year.

Mr Quayle says this year's theme - breaking barriers to productivity - was also well received.

Nearly 50% of exhibitors released a new product or a new service, which is incredible from an innovation point of view, he says.
