Farmers hope for drier weather for calving

Farmers in the water-logged eastern Bay of Plenty are holding out for some fine weather when calving starts in about three weeks.

There has been an excessive amount of rain in the region during the past six weeks, and surface flooding has been almost a weekly event on low-lying farms on the Rangitaiki Plain.

Farmer Scottie McLeod says managing stock in these conditions has been a juggling act for dairy farmers.
