The Horticulture Industry Training Organisation is reviewing Fruit Production Unit Standards used by students in schools, polytechnics and private establishments.
Chief executive Mike Finlayson says the units make up part of a national horticultural qualification, and cover all the skills necessary for someone working in the fruit industry from start-up to trades person level.
He says the review is necessary to ensure what's being studied is as up to date as possible.
Mr Finlayson says industry experts will look at the units, and if there are gaps in skills knowledge new units will be written.
Mr Finlayson says some units will only need retuning, but for others which have lost their currency it will be a major change.
He expects the review will be finished by the end of the year.
