Royal Show to take on new format

1:22 pm on 4 July 2011

The Royal Agricultural Society has decided that from next year there will be a Royal Show in both the North and South Island.

Executive officer Debbie Cameron says the Royal Show is the flagship event for sheep and cattle breeders and needs to keep its status.

She says it's also important to balance the ecomonics of stud breeders having to transport stock across Cook Strait, which is a barrier is more ways than one.

Debbie Cameron says having two Royal Shows a year will give both sheep and cattle breeders the chance to compete in their droves.

Next year the Canterbury and Waikato A & P Societies will host the Royal Show.
