Mood for trade reform seen in Japan

Beef + Lamb New Zealand says there's a strong mood for trade reform in Japan.

Chair Mike Petersen has been there for trade talks this week as part of a delegation from New Zealand.

Despite high tariffs on imports, Japan is New Zealand's second most valuable beef market.

Mr Petersen says New Zealand is keen to get Japan involved in the talks for a Trans-Pacific Free Trade agreement, which the United States is participating in.

However, he says the Government is preoccupied right now, dealing with a worsening economy and the aftermath of the earthquake and tsunami on 11 March.
