Fonterra seen as becoming global marketplace

Fonterra says its auction site is on the way to becoming a truly global marketplace for buying and selling dairy products, following DairyAmerica's decision to become a supplier.

DairyAmerica will start selling skim milk on the platform from early October to build its export business by giving it access to GlobalDairyTrade's 350 bidders from 67 countries.

Global Dairy Trade general manager Paul Grave says the US-based company's involvement has grown since it started selling whole milk powder on a monthly basis three years ago. It now sells seven products twice monthly to about 350 bidders from 67 countries.

Mr Grave says DairyAmerica represents four major US co-operatives, which supply 45% of all nonfat dry milk and skim milk powder produced in the US.
