Rural Women want higher travel allowances for caregivers

5:43 am on 2 August 2011

Rural Women New Zealand is to push the Government on improving allowances paid to caregivers who have to travel to look after people in rural areas.

President Liz Evans says the organisation has been advocating for an increase in travelling allowances for some time.

She says it's often not economic for some home caregivers to travel long distances to provide care.

Ms Evans says that without caregivers coming into rural homes, those they care for would have to leave their home and live elsewhere.
