Bay of Plenty Regional Council has approved a new five pest management strategy.
Senior policy analyst Sarah Omundsen says it has a wider focus than the previous strategy, which concentrated on the impact of pests on agriculture.
She says the biggest change in the strategy is a new classification system, which defines different levels of management for different pests, according to how severe the threat is.
