An independent laboratory testing service will use a Government research and development grant to expand and improve tests for a number of export-focused primary industries.

Hill Laboratories has received a $1.5 million Technology Development Grant from the Ministry of Science & Innovation.

Managing director Roger Hill says a new laboratory will be set up in Christchurch to speed up advances in timber, wine and honey testing.

Dr Hill says the company is also working on an expanded range of tests for manuka honey and improved testing for PSA disease in kiwifruit is also on the agenda.
