Aftersocks Day marks anniversary of first Canterbury quake

5:42 am on 2 September 2011

A year after the first Canterbury earthquake on 4 September, Rural Women New Zealand has declared Friday an Aftersocks Day.

Rural Women is urging people to wear and buy the special socks it's been marketing to raise funds for earthquake relief.

The merino wool blend socks are made in Ashburton and are in Canterbury colours, red and black, and include a graphic of the February earthquake scale in the design.

So far, almost 10,000 pairs of aftersocks have been sold here and overseas, for the Christchurch Mayoral Fund.

Rural Women is asking proud owners of the socks to put them on and send in photos.
