Pipfruit New Zealand expects apple and pear crops in 2009 to be the best for many years.
Chief executive Peter Beaven predicts exports will be up almost 17% on last year to just over 17 million cartons.
Hawke's Bay is expected to provide most of the export apple crop again, with an estimated10.8 million cartons. Production from the Nelson region will be about half that.
