6:29 am on 4 October 2011

Ten candidates contesting three vacancies on the board of Fonterra. Three directors are up for re-election each year.

One of the three this year, Gregg Gent of Northland, is retiring after serving on the board since Fonterra was formed in 2001.

The other two, Jim van der Poel and John Monaghan, are standing again and are being challenged by eight other candidates.

They are Grant Cochrane, David Macleod, Trevor Hamilton, Jan Marten Kingma, Lachie Cameron, Ken Hames, Gray Baldwin, and Maurice Hardie.

The candidates have already been through a preliminary screening and assessment process and shareholders will have the chance to make their own assessment at meetings with the candidates at the end of October.

There will also be elections for positions on the Fonterra Shareholders Council in five of the 13 wards.
