Union puts legal threat on hold

9:35 pm on 27 October 2011

The Meatworkers Union has put a threat of legal action on hold while negotiations continue to end a dispute at the CMP Rangitikei lamb processing plant at Marton.

Union members have been picketing the plant in protest at lockout action after negotiations for a new collective employment agreement broke down.

The company says most of the workforce has signed individual employment contracts instead.

The union is prepared to challenge the company's actions in the Employment Court, but has put that on hold while new talks that began on Wednesday continue on Thursday.
