Wait for final test to declare Northland Psa free

The organisation leading the kiwifruit industry's response to the vine-killing disease Psa is still waiting on one test result to confirm the Northland region is clear of Psa V.

An initial test last week indicated that the virulent form of the disease had been found on an orchard in the Kerikeri district.

Testing on all but one of the samples taken from orchards in the region have come back negative.

Further testing on the initial sample which gave a positive result is underway.

Kiwifruit Vine Health general manager John Burke says the chances of that final test also being negative are looking hopeful.

The disease has so far been restricted to the main kwiifruit growing area, Bay of Plenty.
