Australia gives NZ shearers and wool handlers a drubbing

6:06 am on 14 November 2011

Australian shearers and wool handlers had a field day against their New Zealand rivals at the New Zealand Corriedale Championships, at the Canterbury A & P Show.

Former world champion Shannon Warnest from South Australia won the open machine shearing final, the first overseas shearer to win in the event's 52-year history.

He also led an Australian team to a record third win in a row over New Zealand in trans-Tasman tests.

And the Australian woolhandling team scored Australia's first win over New Zealand in a test in New Zealand in 12 years.

The only positive results for New Zealand were in the blade-shearing test and the open wool handling final.
