Farmers more comfortable with One Plan document

Farmers who criticised the Manawatu-Whanganui region's proposed One Plan say it is now shaping into a workable document.

The Horizons Regional Council Plan, which covers the management of the region's natural resources over the next ten years, was finalised in August last year.

However, more than 440 appeals were made to the Environment Court.

The council says 307 of those have been resolved through mediation.

Federated Farmers Manawatu-Rangitikei president Andrew Hoggard says that's a good start.

However, he says the biggest sticking point for farmers is still there.

He says a rule making dairy farms in certain catchments consented activities is the main area still to be resolved.

Mr Hoggard says if a compromise can't be reached in the next few months, the appeal will go to the Environment Court.
