Federated Farmers is digging deeper into fracking, after concerns raised by some Taranaki farmers about the oil and gas exploration process.
Fracking, or horizontal hydraulic fracturing, injects a mixture of water, sand and chemicals at extreme pressure to break open cracks, as a drill bores sideways through oil and gas bearing rocks.
Taranaki Federated Farmers president Harvey Leach told the Federation's National Council that some farmers with oil and gas drilling operations on their land have been worried about potential water contamination from the fracking process.
He says farmers were concerned about the chemicals that go in the water and contamination to the wells and bores.
Mr Leach says it seems to come back to misinformation and not enough information getting out to farmers.
He says Taranaki Federated Farmers plans to talk to the oil company and to get a few of the farmers who have been affected along to get more information.
