Meatworker delegates join locked out workers in Marton

6:56 am on 17 November 2011

Meatworker representatives from throughout the country have joined more than 100 locked out workers on the picket line at the CMP Rangitikei sheep processing plant at Marton.

The dispute has also attracted international union attention.

Ron Oswald, General Secretary of the International Union of Food, Agricultural, Hotel, Restaurant, Catering, Tobacco and Allied Workers' Associations, is in New Zealand to support the workers who were locked out of the plant almost a month ago after refusing to agree to wage cuts.

More than 200 others are working at the plant after signing individual contracts.

Negotiations between the Meatworkers Union and the plant owner ANZCO have failed to find a way out of the dispute so far.
