Rural residents asked to look out for cannabis

1:31 pm on 18 November 2011

Police are asking rural residents to keep an eye out for signs of cannabis cultivation, as the growing season begins.

Officers in Waikato say farm and forestry land is targeted by cannabis growers because crops can be hidden from view.

They say this is the time of year when quadbikes, fencing equipment and irrigation materials are stolen by people putting in cannabis plots.

Farmers are urged to report any sightings of suspicious vehicles or trespassers.
