Last season's kumaras being dumped

2:38 pm on 19 November 2011

Kumara growers in Northland have decided to dump most of the balance of last year's crop before new season kumara comes on the market.

Country Life reports they want to re-establish the value of their crop.

Prices have been pitiful: about $200 per bin when they were getting $800 previously.

Growers are selling them by the truckload to dairy farmers. Apparently kumara are more nutricious for cows than palm kernal, and are cheaper.
