Fed Farmers wants better advertising of strawberry kit recall

7:11 am on 23 November 2011

Federated Farmers is calling for better advertising of the recall of Buzzy Strawberry Mini Grow kits.

The kits, which were imported from China, have been recalled by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry because they did not undergo six months of quarantine as required.

The kits consist of small packages of strawberry seeds, a clay pot and potting mix.

More than 1300 kits have been sold through The Warehouse.

Federated Farmers' biosecurity spokesperson Dr William Rolleston says the kits could introduce viral diseases to fruit crops.

He says the importer, Tui Products Ltd, and The Warehouse should advertise the recall on their website home pages and social media.

MAF's advice is to wrap each kit in a bag and put it in the rubbish.
