Sanford's full year profit has fallen almost 11%, due to the high New Zealand dollar curbing export returns.

The listed fishing company made $22.3 million in the year to the end of September, compared with $25 million in the previous year.

Sanford's managing director Eric Barratt says the recently purchased Pacifica Seafoods is proving successful, and stable prices are also helping its mussel operations in Havelock and Coromandel.

But Mr Barratt says the high New Zealand dollar hit earnings, particularly during the second six months when the dollar ranged up towards 85 cents.
