Farmers urged to inform on cannabis growers

12:44 pm on 13 December 2011

Farmers are being urged to tell police of any suspicious activity that may be linked with cannabis growing, especially in the back country, or areas growing crops such as maize.

Federated Farmers says members should not put themselves at risk, but should pass on the information.

President Bruce Wills says past experience has shown that cannabis growing can lead to crimes more directly affecting farmers, such as stealing meat and theft of farm equipment.

A recent letter of agreement signed between Federated Farmers and the police.
