Wool prices down again

12:46 pm on 22 December 2011

Wool prices slipped further at the last sale before Christmas.

New Zealand Wool Services International says the biggest pressure on prices came from a stronger New Zealand dollar.

About three quarters of the 16,500 bales of North and South Island wool offered for auction, was sold.

Mid-micron and cross-bred fleece and shears all lost ground.

The only type to show any price gain was coarse long oddments from the South Island.

The supply of wool will increase at the next sale, with 24,000 bales on offer on 12 January.
