The kiwifruit harvest is expected to be down by 15 million trays this year.
Zespri has confirmed an initial estimate of 90 million trays, down from 105 million last year.
It says the PSA vine disease and a bumper crop last year contributed to the drop.
Less fruit will mean higher prices paid per tray and lower handling costs.
Zespri says final prediction figures will be released next month when the harvest begins.
