Timaru farmer heads for nationals

6:32 am on 28 February 2012

A sheep and beef farmer at Cave, in the Timaru District, will be heading to the national finals of the Young Farmer Competition.

Andrew Scott won the Aorangi regional final at the weekend - the last of the South Island competitions.

At age 30, it is the last time Mr Scott is allowed to participate.

He won a $10,000 prize pack including a two-wheeled farm bike, a $1500 scholarship from Lincoln University and $1000 cash.

Seven regional winners will compete in the national finals in Dunedin in May.

The Aorangi region produced last year's national Young Farmers winner, Will Grayling.
