Auckland City book place in O-League final

9:44 am on 4 March 2012

Defending champions Auckland City have earned the chance to retain their O-League football title after a thrilling 1-all away draw against Papua New Guinea outfit Hekari United.

It looked like the home side had pocketed the three points they so desperately required as they went into the closing stages 1-nil up but in injury time Auckland midfielder Alex Feneridis curled home a spectacular free kick to break the hearts of Hekari.

Tahiti's Tefana have kept themselves in the running to be the side that joins them in the final after triumphing 2-nil over New Caledonia club Mont-Dore, to keep the pressure on Group A leaders Waitakere United, who face Ba in Fiji tomorrow.

Tefana now lead Waitakere by a point, having played one game more, and the Kiwis must earn a positive outcome from their Fijian sojourn.
