Nissan claims headstart on Ford and Falcon for V8 Supercars

Nissan's V8 Supercar guinea pigs say they've got a headstart on Holden and Ford, rolling out their first car chassis just weeks Nissan declared it would join the series.

Kelly Racing, who'll run four cars for Nissan next year, say they've already developed the bare essentials for their first V8 racer.

Nissan won't say which model will provide the body panels for their 2013 entry but the Nissan Altima to be unveiled in the United States shortly appears the most likely option.

Its specifications are comparable with a Commodore or Falcon and a V8 engine could dropped in with few problems.

V8 Supercar boss Tony Cochrane says a fourth manufacturer is likely to announce its decision to join the series soon, with Chrysler the most likely contender.
