Football Ferns draw with Dutch

8:02 am on 7 March 2012

The New Zealand women's football team has drawn 2-all with the Netherlands in their final match at the Cyprus Cup.

The score was level at 1-all at half time with Amber Hearn and Sarah Gregorius scoring the goals.

In a penalty shootout to determine final places the Dutch won 4-2 to claim 7th spot.

Football Ferns coach Tony Readings says they're disappointed as they felt they'd done enough to win the match, however he feels they've learnt so much about playing in a tournament.

They went through the tournament unbeaten and Readings says there's more to come from his group ahead of the Olympics and they've got four months to realise that potential.

To reach London, the Football Ferns now face either Papua New Guinea or Tonga - those two teams meet in the final of the OFC Women's Olympic Qualifiers in Tonga later today - over two legs to claim Oceania's sole spot in the 12 team finals.

France beat Canada 2-nil in the final of the Cyprus Cup.
