Mallett likely to be next England coach

The smart money seems to be on Nick Mallett to take over as the next coach of the England rugby team.

The English-born former coach of South Africa and Italy rejected an initial approach to apply for the job last November when Martin Johnson stood down after England's shambolic World Cup campaign.

55 year old Mallett has been publicly supported by the former England international Jeremy Guscott, and New Zealander John Kirwan, who has also been linked with the job.

So far the only formal application for the position job has come from the current caretaker coach Stuart Lancaster.
