Valerie Adams has won the shot put final at the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul, the New Zealander taking back the only major title she doesn't hold from her arch-rival Nadezhda Ostapchuk.

Adams beat the Belarussian by 12 centimetres with the final throw of the competition.

She had already won the competition with an earlier throw of 20.48 metres but stepped up to throw 20.54 metres, which is also Adams' indoor personal best and an Oceania record.

Adams dominated from the start, needing just one throw to qualify top.

Adams now holds the Olympic, world, world indoor, Commonwealth, Continental Cup and Diamond League titles.

She says it was sweet to win back the indoor title from Ostapchuk and especially as her coach was there but now she'll get her head down and bum up to finish her Olympic preparations back in Switzerland as she targets Olympic gold medal.
