The Blues have scored their first win of the Super Rugby competition, edging the Bulls 29-23 in Pretoria.

The Blues first five eighth Gareth Anscombe scored all the visitors' points with two converted tries and five penalties. They led 20-8 at half-time.

Rene Ranger copped a yellow card as the Bulls scored their bonus point with the last play of the game, the Blues winger also receiving a white card and a possible date with the judiciary as he injured opposite flier Bjorn Basson in the tackle as he scored in the corner.

The Blues haven't won at Loftus Versfeld since their title run in 2003. One fan wasn't happy with the result, throwing a bottle at Blues skipper Keven Mealamu. He wasn't hurt and the fan was arrested.

Elsewhere, the Highlanders scored their third straight win, edging the New South Wales Waratahs 18-17 in Dunedin.

The Queensland Reds overcame an unexpectedly stiff challenge from the Melbourne Rebels to snatch a narrow 11-6 victory in Brisbane and maintain their 100 percent winning start.

In Canberra, the ACT Brumbies needed a penalty goal after the siren to clinch a 24-23 win over the Cheetahs from South Africa while in an all-South African derby, the Sharks beat the Lions 32-20 in Durban.
