The Highlanders have won their third straight Super Rugby game, defeating the New South Wales Waratahs 18-17 in Dunedin.
The Waratahs led for much of the game and could have nicked a victory at the end but their last possession ended with a turnover.
Tries either side of half-time from halfback Aaron Smith and flanker John Hardie ended up being enough.
But first five Lima Sopoaga has joined the Highlanders' casualty list with an AC injury that could rule him out for four games.
