Braid set to add to Pat Lam's headaches

The Blues could lose yet another player after flanker Luke Braid was cited for alleged foul play in their Super Rugby match against the Stormers.

Braid's been cited for striking Stormers player Nizaam Carr with his elbow and forearm at the back of the neck while on the ground in the 62nd minute of the Blues' 27-17 loss at Newlands in Cape Town.

The citing commissioner says the incident has met the red card threshold for foul play.

The Blues are already so short of players thanks to injury, suspension and bereavement leave in the case of Jock Hobbs' son Michael that coach Pat Lam was forced to field his nephew Ben Lam against the Stormers.

The 20-year-old wider training group squad member made his debut on the wing for the injured David Raikuna.

In recent weeks the Blues have also lost Jerome Kaino, Anthony Boric, Isaia Toeava, Rudi Wulf and George Moala to injuries, while Rene Ranger is suspended.
