St George Illawarra and Brisbane post NRL wins

St George Illawarra easily brushed aside an under-par Wests Tigers 36-12 in Friday night's National Rugby Leauge clash in Sydney.

After the side's 30-4 humbling by the Canterbury Bulldogs last Saturday, coach Steve Price vowed his side would move on from one of their worst performances for years.

And his players showed no ill-effects as they raced out to a 24-6 half-time lead thanks to tries from Mitch Rein, Dan Hunt, Nathan Fien and Ben Hornby.

Dragons debutant Daniel Vidot and Ben Creagh crossed late in the game to seal the comprehensive victory, while Jamie Soward kicked six goals.

Elsewhere the Newcastle Knights sluggish start to the NRL season continued when they bumbled their way to a 24-10 loss to Brisbane at home.

Both sides will be ruing their lack of respect for the ball, with a whopping 25 mistakes between the two sides lending itself to a low-quality contest.
