Slater gets Storm home over Titans, Cowboys humiliate Eels

8:14 am on 18 March 2012

Dynamic fullback Billy Slater has spearheaded the Melbourne Storm's 30-6 National Rugby League victory over the Gold Coast at Skilled Park.

Slater showed blinding speed in the 65th minute to score his 129th career try leaving Titans fullback William Zillman, no slouch himself, grasping at thin air as he crossed to make the score 18-6.

But what the Queensland and Australia No.1 did next was almost unbelievable.

Team-mate Cameron Smith put up a last play kick that looked too deep and well covered by Titans centre Beau Champion.

But Slater flew through the air and snatched it from Champion's hands before managing to ground it a whisker inside the dead ball line.

The North Queensland Cowboys continued Parramatta's horror start to the season, handing them a 36-point belting at Dairy Farmers Stadium.

The Eels are winless from three rounds after struggling to deal with the wet and slippery conditions in Townsville to go down 42-6.
