Team NZ looking forward to surfing conditions in southern ocean

The Team New Zealand crew is hoping to make up some ground on the leaders on the fifth leg of the Volvo Ocean.

The fleet leaves Auckland Sunday afternoon bound for Brazil in the only southern ocean leg of the round the world race.

Team New Zealand's boat Camper is in third place.

Helmsman Rob Salthouse says while they don't have the fastest boat, it is one of the best downwind and so they're hoping for plenty of that on what is the most exciting leg of the race.

Salthouse says the southern ocean leg is what the race is all about and what was then the Whitbread round the world race is what he grew up dreaming about competing in.
