The New Zealand tennis number one Marina Erakovic survived an early scare before beating Frenchwoman Mathilde Johannson 4-6 6-4 6-4 in the first round of the WTA's Miami Open.
It took the world number 49 two hours and 41 minutes to subdue the unseeded Johannson with Erakovic to face Belgian world number 33 Yanina Wickmayer in the second round.
In doubles Erakovic and Taipei's Yung Jan Chan will face Australian Open champions Svetlana Kuznetsova and Vera Zvonareva of Russia.
